Do you know the origin of Boxing Day?
Although Boxing Day is often associated with the Premier League matches played the day after Christmas, its bases are unrelated to sport.
The name Boxing Day has its origins in the 19th century in the Victorian era, the period when Victoria was the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland (from 1837 until 1901).
The term comes from an era when wealthy individuals used to box up gifts to give to the poor.
Traditionally, Boxing Day was also a day off for employees who ended up receiving a Christmas box from their employers.
