First Team Physiotherapist – Arsenal

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Arsenal Medical Team’s aim is to provide a world class level of care for the First Team squad. With roles including Team Doctor, Physiotherapists, Masseurs plus a Nutritionist, Yoga Teacher and Podiatrist there is a team approach to delivering high quality medical input to the players.

JOB PURPOSE

To manage injured players along with the Head of Department and to provide treatment and rehabilitation. The implementation of injury prevention strategies is also a key part of the role.

To assist with the current screening process already in place for the First Team and to contribute to the development of this process.

To contribute to and attend the existing internal CPD programme which is scheduled at suitable times throughout the season.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To consult with players to gather information about general health and injury.
  • Collect and analyse data to identify cause of injury.
  • Contribute to strategies for the prevention and reduction of injury.
  • To diagnose and treat the injured players.
  • To provide physiotherapy input to improve the fit players and minimise their time lost due to injury
  • Devise and manage rehabilitation/treatment plans.
  • Produce up-to-date high-quality
  • Physiotherapy notes onto the club’s computerised database.
  • Evaluate effectiveness of rehabilitation/treatment programme.
  • To work with other members of the Medical team to provide an holistic approach to the treatment and prevention of injury.
  • To contribute to the team’s internal continuous professional development.

Match/Event responsibilities and organisation

To contribute to the medical input into players on specified matches and all training sessions and occasional support to medical team in the team hotel pre-match.

MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education/Qualifications/Training:

  • BSc in Physiotherapy.
  • Current membership of the Health Professions Council.
  • Up to date ATMMIF qualification
  • Post graduate qualification would be advantageous.

Specific Experience:

Required

  • Experience of working with elite level athletes.
  • Experience of treating sporting injuries in elite athletes.
  • Experience of working collaboratively within a multi disciplinary team.

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to assess injury.
  • Ability to design and deliver individual rehabilitation programmes.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both written and orally, in a clear and logical manner.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively to achieve best player care.
  • Ability to educate, advise and motivate individuals.
  • Able to take a holistic approach to the treatment of injury.
  • Knowledge and awareness of available conventional and alternative treatments.
  • To use knowledge and expertise to promote the health and wellbeing of individual clients
  • Good competency with Microsoft office, demonstrable knowledge of sports medicine specific note taking / systems.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo an enhanced CRB check.
