Position Description
Context of the WYNT Director:
  • Serves as the leader of the YNT Head Coaches
  • Works with all stakeholders (staff, scouts, coaches, clubs, parents, etc.) involved in the development of YNT players
  • Works with identified (top) talents
  • Commits to the mission, objectives and policies of U.S. Soccer
Purpose of the WYNT Director:
  • Contributes to the U.S. Soccer YNT talent development plan and curriculumto accelerate the individual development of (top) talents by supplementing the players’ everyday club environments
  • Implements, executes and evaluates the U.S. Soccer YNT talent development plan and curriculum related to the appropriate age group
  • Provides expertise, and perform duties and tasks specific to the appropriate age group
  • Creates a development and performance environment for the current players to become future National Team players

 

Primary Responsibilities
The WYNT Director:
  • Is accountable to the Chief Sport Development Officer
  • Collaborates with the General Manager and Sport Development technical leaders to create the best environment for (top) talents
  • Contributes to all aspects of the YNT player pathway from identification to development
  • Leads, coaches, and manages the YNT Head Coaches
  • Assigns YNT Head Coaches as assistant coaches with other teams
  • Identifies candidates for head coach positions and network assistant coach positions, and manages all coaching appointments
  • Contributes to efforts related to talent identification and scouting
  • Contributes to the other Sport Development programs (projects, initiatives, calls, meetings, camps, courses, events, etc.) as assigned
Tasks and Duties of the WYNT Director:
Working collaboratively with all internal technical leaders to implement and execute U.S. Soccer’s Mission, Objectives, Strategy, and Tactics (MOST), U.S. Soccer’s player development philosophy and curriculum, and the YNT MOST
  • Contributes to the creation of the YNT MOST
  • Contributes to the creation of the U.S. Soccer player development philosophy and curriculum
  • Ensures the U.S. Soccer MOST and U.S. Soccer player development philosophy and curriculum is implemented effectively across all aspects of YNT programming

 

Implementing, executing, and evaluating the U.S. Soccer YNT talent development plan
  • Implements U.S. Soccer’s philosophies on soccer, player development, and coaching
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of the entire player pool and relevant depth charts
  • Communicates with coaches, scouts and others involved in the implementation and evaluation of the YNT talent development plan
  • Designs an annual YNT plan with established development and performance goals
  • Creates standards and processes to improve the development of players
  • Evaluates and reports on the effectiveness of the program and monitors trends through internal/external and qualitative/quantitative research to make improvements as needed

 

Leading the staff
  • Builds and leads a team of head coaches who are aligned with the U.S. Soccer and YNT MOST
  • Manages the hiring process of head coaches based on the YNT Head Coach profile
  • Manages the hiring process of network assistant coaches based on the YNT Assistant Coach profile
  • Creates standards and processes to improve the development of coaches
  • Coaches the coaches and guides the process of their development
  • Manages and improves the YNT Head Coaches through regular evaluation and feedback on their duties
  • Supports YNT Head Coaches in designing their own personal development plan
  • Conducts formal and informal performance reviews with each YNT Head Coach
  • Representing U.S. Soccer internally and externally
  • Communicates internally (Chief Sport Development Officer, General Managers, Sport Development technical leaders, YNT Head Coaches, etc.)
  • Communicates externally (club leaders, coaches, parents, etc.)
  • Communicates and interacts with other stakeholders (membership, media, donors, sponsors, etc.) as assigned
  • Updates direct reports on all required organizational matters (policy changes, programs, initiatives, deadlines, staffing changes, etc.)

 

Initiating and stimulating innovation and improvements regarding player development and the YNT program
  • Creates a culture of ongoing development and innovation
  • Monitors the sport (domestically and internationally) for trends and methods related to coach and player development
  • Shares ideas and creates projects and proposals as assigned
Developing and implementing leadership characteristics in all aspects of developing (top) talents in the YNT environment
  • Serves as a role model for leadership
  • Maintains contact with everyone; motivates and stimulates all staff members
  • Is adaptable and flexible in dealing with (un)expected challenges and problems
  • Articulates own learning needs and formulate personal development goals
  • Evaluates, reflects and focuses on self-development
Minimum Qualifications
  • U.S. Soccer A License (or UEFA A License)
  • Expert knowledge of the sport (team tactical principles, profiles, styles of play, etc.) and able to clearly articulate this knowledge to others
  • Experience working for a club or federation in a non-coaching technical leadership role
  • Proven track record of improving coaches through teaching and mentoring
  • Familiarity with the soccer landscape in the U.S.
  • Desire to lead and work in a collaborative environment with other U.S. Soccer technical leaders
Desired Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of the soccer landscape in the U.S.
  • Experience coaching (top) talents at the international level
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
